![]() This price is not a typo: $300 for a completely overhauled vintage name brand Tenor. NO EXCEPTIONSCommunications ONLY thru Craigs list. NO EXCEPTIONSPickup here at my place in Carlisle. Comes with mouthpiece, ligature, strap and hard shell case. Vintage case in fair but usable condition included. Heres a Holton Collegiate model alto saxophone. Everything you love about a solid, good ol' vintage American Tenor. Ergos are comfy, intonation is in the pocket. Holtons always had major cojones, and this is not exception. It's in good form, sturdy, and sounds great. The original saddle has been replaced w/ a new Yamaha saddle, and the previous sheet metal brace replaced with a sturdier one from a Conn 16M. But the tube profile and integrity are good. So everything came off.key, saddle, tenon, brace, pip.neck tube has been worked back into proper shapel still has some minor dings and inconsistencies, however. The neck had some pulldown which required complete disassembly to get at properly. Feels fine under the fingers, operates as it should. So I hard-soldered on an Armstrong touch which fits pretty IS nickel however. The side Bb touch was missing barrel and lever were there, just no touch. New domed metal reso pads, except two or three which are plastic reso because I was out of the sized for those keys. Holes leveled, keys swedged, rods trued, keywork lubed and regulated. The neck receiver was missing one of the thumbscrew holes, so we replaced it with a new, generic receiver that fits the neck well. A few resolders here and there, previously done we cleaned them up a bit to make them look better as they were structurally sound and their placement was right, decided not to redo them. There are still small dings here and there. We have done some moderate dent repair & gotten everything back into good geometry as far as body goes. Original lacq around 60%, fair amount of spotting and several bare patches. ![]() Right left top bottom and the LH pinky table.A '65 Collegiate model 577, completely overhauled. 13 The Collegiate brand for brasswinds was terminated in 1980. Leblanc acquired Holton in 1964 and phased out the Collegiate saxophone line in favor of their Vito-branded instruments. Late 1933 to mid can you furnish complete photos. Holton became the supplier for Leblanc 's Vito line of student-line brasswinds and (briefly) saxophones in 1951. The wire guards are from 1928 Couturier parts. The bell body is old inventory from the Rudy Era, engraved Collegiate. It has modern key work of the collegiate line. I'm guessing this is a 1925 body tube and serial number. In the time they were made, Collegiates were Holtons second-line of saxophones. What's really bothering me is the round escutcheon plates on the key guards. The Bell engraving design appears to be early format. ![]() I'm not entirely sure when the collegiate line began model identification. At the same time this is definitely a left-hand Bell key & 19xxx is a 1925 number. It's my understanding and I may be wrong. Click to expand. This is really interesting. ![]()
